About The Event

As part of the "Rethinking the Production of Space" talk series, Han Tümertekin will give his talk titled "This is Not a Line" at YUNT.


Han Tumertekin:


Tümertekin, who was born in 1958, completed his architecture education at Istanbul Technical University, completed his master's degree at Istanbul University and did his architecture internship at Bernstein Champetier Vidal and Düldönen's studio in Paris between 1982-1983. The famous architect, who founded Architects and Han Tümertekin Project Consultancy Services in 1986, has carried out projects in the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, England and France, as well as in Turkey. He also has an architectural office in Strasbourg called Atelier Han Tümertekin.


Since 1992, he has been a guest lecturer at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris and Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. He also takes part in architecture events by giving lectures and conducting workshops.


Selected projects were published as a monograph by Harvard University Press, and publications such as Domus, Abitare, Architectura Viva, d'Architecture, 'World Atlas of Contemporary Architecture', 'Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture' have included Tümertekin's works.


One of the most important awards he has received is the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2004 with the B2 House. He has served on many juries, including the 2007 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture since 2008.


His most well-known works include SALT Galata, SALT Beyoğlu and Robinson Crusoe 389 Bookstore in Beyoğlu, the Residence Building of the Turkish Embassy in Ulan Bator in Mongolia, Cafe Turc in Paris and the Mission Buildings of the Republic of Turkey in Strasbourg.
