PresentAbsent
October 10, 2025 — August 16, 2026

“PresentAbsent,” curated by Merve Elveren and Meriç Öner, will be on display at YUNT from 11 October 2025 to 16 August 2026. Through people, objects, places, and times, it reveals past and future imaginings that are tangential to each other over the course of a year in three sections. In the exhibition that leap across different moments and geographies, participants reinterpret their research and productions through the lens of a destabilized tension between the private and public.
Between October 11, 2025 and February 1, 2026, the first chapter of the project, "PresentAbsent: Alive", brings together a selection from architectural historian Gürbey Hiz’s critical atlas of modernity—developed through his study of the science and literature magazine Servet-i Fünûn—with artist Emre Hüner’s video Neochronophobiq (2015) and the ceramic characters he designed for it.
“PresentAbsent: Under the Rug”, the second instalment of the PresentAbsent Programme, will be on view at YUNT from 4 February 2026 to 3 May 2026. As the second part of a three-part exhibition spanning an entire year, it offers alternative perspectives on the past and future through the long-term research of participants Metehan Özcan, Mona Mahall and Aslı Serbest.
The final chapter of the PresentAbsent Programme, "Monumentesque", concludes with the participation of Firuzan Melike Sümertaş and Deniz Tortum between 6 May 2026 and 16 August 2026, further deepening the exhibition’s long-term inquiry into publicness. As the exhibition space gradually assumes its final form through works that have, over the course of a year, accumulated, diminished, and intertwined with one another, YUNT establishes a multilayered ground for sustaining a collective practice of reflection on the transformation of publicness.
